DV 5233 Chaplains to the Imprisoned Textbook
                          Dr. Richard Denis Shaw/Dr. M. R. Burckley-Frost
This course gives a candid and accurate assessment. It offers an historical perspective
as well as addresses the issues of the present moment. It is a forthright response to
complex issues and is highly recommended for all correctional workers from
                          administrative personnel to line staff.
**Note: In this textbook, the author uses quotes from inmates which contains
profanity. While the school staff does not agree with the use of this language, the
author is allowing the chaplain student to glimpse the reality of working and
ministering to individuals that are in a dark and sometimes painful place in their lives.

DV 5243 The Principles of Prison Ministry Textbook
Dr. Tommy Seay, Jr. / Dr. Lawrence Burkes
Many churches have sent teams of ministers into prisons, and nearly two-thirds of them
have returned to their churches defeated. The Principles of Prison Ministry serves as a
manual for such teams, giving volunteer chaplains a far better view of what prison
ministry is all about. This course will help navigate you through some of the trouble
areas in this difficult world of prisons.

DV 5253 Prison Ministry: Understanding Prison Culture Inside and Out Textbook
Lennie Spitale / Dr. Terry Stair
For most Christians, prison culture is like visiting a foreign land and the thought of
ministering in prison to those incarcerated it is an intimidating prospect. This book will
empower any pastor, educator, or lay leader in doing effective prison ministry by
providing a thorough "inside-out" view of prison life.

DV 5263 Effective Jail and Prison Ministry for the 21st Century Textbook

The book points out the “greater need” beyond Bible studies and worship is for
“discipleship through strategies such as mentoring, recovery support groups, life skill
training, aftercare and community reintegration, family reconciliation and restoration.”

                          Dr. Jan D. Goodman
This course deals with the psychology of an individual who is trapped in the cycle of
repeating crimes and therefore, finding themselves in and out of the prison system.

DV 5303 Pastoral Care Emergencies Textbook
David K. Switzer / Dr. Cynthia A. Simpson
